How This Calculator Works

This tool uses the metabolic equivalent (MET) method from the Compendium of Physical Activities. Sit-ups and similar calisthenics have an estimated MET of about 3.8 for moderate effort and 8.0 for vigorous effort. One MET is roughly your resting energy expenditure, and the MET value tells you how many times harder your body is working during the activity.

Formula: Total calories = MET × 0.0175 × body weight (kg) × active minutes.

Active minutes are estimated by dividing your total sit-ups by your pace. If you enter 120 sit-ups at 30 per minute, the active time is 4 minutes. The calories are then split into fat and carbohydrate portions based on effort intensity.
